Clean Energy + Environmental Justice

Research fellowship with Planet Reimagined

Context

The Common Grounds initiative by Planet Reimagined seeks to accelerate the U.S. transition to renewable energy by repurposing up to 18 million acres of federal lands currently leased for fossil fuel extraction into sites for large-scale solar and wind projects.

In collaboration with other research fellows, our environmental justice research within this initiative has highlighted the disproportionate health and environmental burdens borne by frontline energy communities due to oil and gas extraction. These communities often face increased exposure to pollutants, leading to higher rates of respiratory issues and other health problems.
